Golden Community Resources Society (GCRS) manages the contract with WCG International Consultants Ltd., for employment services in Golden. The WorkBC program, administered by the Ministry of Social Development and Poverty Reduction, delivers an integrated system of employment services and supports to all British Columbians who are seeking employment and legally eligible to work in BC. The purpose of WorkBC is to support clients in achieving and maintaining sustainable employment as quickly as possible.

WorkBC Employment Services information
EMPLOYMENT SERVICES
WorkBC Employment Services offers one to one job search planning and support for unemployed or underemployed British Columbians seeking sustainable employment. A unique action plan is developed to assist client in finding stable employment as quickly as possible. Services available may include the following, and are based on individual assessment and eligibility:
Supported job search – 1:1 job search assistance, including direct marketing
Workshops – Essential Skills, Employment Readiness, Preparing and Searching for Work
Short Term Certificate Training – funding for courses less than 35 hours in length (examples: Foodsafe, Serving it Right, First Aid, etc)
Adult Basic Education and Academic Upgrading – assistance and funding for high school completion, essential skills or pre-requisite courses
Short Duration Training – funding for courses/programs under 6 weeks/180 hours total.
Occupational Skills Training – funding for courses/programs up to one year in length
Wage Subsidy Work Experience – this service provides an employer a subsidy to hire a new employee and provide training on the job.
Customized Employment Development – a flexible service designed to personalize the employment relationship between a Client and an Employer in a way that meets the needs of both. Customized Employment involves providing individualized services to Clients and Employers when Clients have complex employment support needs and require intensive support services to obtain and maintain employment.
Self Employment Services – 48 week program for individuals who are starting a new business; provides workshops, business planning assistance, coaching and mentoring, and financial supports.
Financial supports for job search or starting a new job – available for various costs, including transportation, daycare, essential work clothing or supplies, etc.
Apprentice Services – financial supports for individuals accessing apprentice training in the trades
Assistive Technology Services – financial supports provided to eligible Clients to reduce or remove the impact of disability-related employment barriers.

Andrea Edgar - Client Services Coordinator
Andrea will be the first one to greet you at our WorkBC centre. She has worked in employment services since 2017 and understands the challenges of a mountain town labour market. She enjoys getting to know our clients and hearing their stories.
She is always happy to help in both English and French.

Jamie Gibson – Employment Consultant/Case Manager
Jamie has been delivering provincial employment programming in Golden since 2009. She is highly knowledgeable about WorkBC’s programs and services, and has developed strong connections with local employers. She has a graduate certificate in Human Resources, and a degree in Psychology, and is passionate about helping her clients meet their goals with the assistance of WorkBC’s Employment Services.
