Welcome to Mountain Child.

We believe that all children regardless of culture, religion or race have the ability and right to learn and grow in a nurturing and supportive environment. In order to enable the development of enthusiastic, self-reliant, and well balanced children, adults must create and promote safe environments where children are able to experiment and problem solve without judgment or discouragement.

While recognizing each child as an individual and unique, we see our role as facilitators; inspiring the development of the whole child- socially, emotionally, physically and cognitively. With the use of an emergent curriculum, children are actively engaged in assisting with program development; thus encouraging their individual interests, fuelling their enthusiasm for learning and fostering feelings of respect, independence and self-esteem.

Mountain Child ELCC opened in May 2015. The preschool was developed in response to a community need for more licensed child care opportunities.

Many funders and community partners were involved with the start up of Mountain Child Early Learning + Care Centre: Columbia Basin Trust, Columbia Valley Credit Union, Columbia Shuswap Regional District, Golden Community Resources Society, Ministry of Children and Family Development and Rocky Mountain School District No. 6.

History of Governing Body and Licensee

Golden Community Resources Society has been in operation in Golden for 31 years. The Society has provided a broad spectrum of services for the community including early years programs and child care. Golden Community Resource Society holds the license to operate the Mountain Child Early Care and Learning Centre which opened in April 2016.

Governance and Organizational Structure

Golden Community Resources Society is a non-profit and charitable organization under the BC Society Act and Canada Customs and Revenue charitable status. The Society is operated by a volunteer Board of Directors who are responsible for the legal and financial oversight of the Society. Golden Community Resources Society is licensee under the Community Care Facilities regulations.

Program Philosophy

The centre adheres to the philosophy that in the early years, children learn best through play and interactions with peers and caring adults. Extended access to outdoor play environments and exposure to nature are highly valued and encouraged. Social Emotional Learning is deeply embedded in our philosophy as the cornerstone of children’s success in school and in life. We are guided by the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Children to include and support all children.

“Mountain Child Early Learning and Care Centre is committed to providing a nurturing early learning environment where the children’s love of learning is encouraged through play based activities.  We recognize that parents/guardians are essential to their children’s development as well as being the first and strongest of all role models, and are an integral part of our early learning environment.”
